Introduction

A sought-after piano teacher in Northern Virginia, pianist and musicologist Biljana Jovanovic, NVMTA member has been teaching piano for over twenty years.

Biljana was born in Belgrade, Serbia, Europe where she was studying piano and musicology and teaching piano. Biljana holds master degree from Belgrade University, Belgrade, Serbia, Europe and has studied with renowned piano teachers Gordana Malinovic and Nada Engl.

She moved to the US in 1995 and continued her piano teaching practice. Biljana is giving piano lessons at student’s home and at her studio in Falls Church, Virginia. Her students have been of the different age levels, but mostly between ages of 6 through 18 from Northern Virginia area. She uses both European and American piano teaching methods. Her piano teaching program combines playing classical and popular music with scales, etudes, solfeggio, listening to major-minor chords, intervals, musical forms and harmonies suitable for the music level and the age of the students. Some of Biljana’s students got their initial music education with her and continued their education in very well known Music Schools like Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Academy of Music in Belgrade, Serbia.

She puts enormous effort into making students understand what they are playing and become proficient music readers and performers.

Each student may participate in the recital at the end of the school year. Many of Biljana’s students are continuously receiving top rating of “Superior” at the Bach/Baroque Festival.

The Biljana’s Studio welcomes any student who loves music enough to devote the time and energy to practice playing piano and is interested in music.

Missed lessons

  • Missed lessons make-ups are to be done within the same month.
  • Lesson swaps may be arranged if the new term is available and works fine with the teacher and the student.
